What's New Michigan tax ruling could power wind energy projects Great Lakes Echo (1/25) A recent personal property tax ruling that will cost Michigan counties millions of dollars in revenue could prove vital for utility companies and energy manufacturers around the state. Grand River listed among most endangered in nation The News-Herald (5/16) The Grand River, which empties into Lake Erie in Fairport Harbor, has been named one of the most endangered rivers in the country according to American Rivers, an organization that seeks to protect and restore the country's rivers and streams. Sulfide Mining Regulation in the Great Lakes Region (5/16) A new report by the National Wildlife Federation and Ecojustice Canada examines whether state and provincial laws are up to the task of overseeing sulfide mining. Sulfide mining is new to the region and has proven to be devastating to natural resources in parts of the western United States and Canada. Great Lakes consortium downplays missing states Wind Energy Update (5/14) A consortium between the US government and five states to develop wind power in the Great Lakes is confident of making significant progress even though three other states bordering the Lakes have refused to sign.
